In order to meet the requirement of Muga and Eri basic commercial silkworm seed in the country, Muga Seed Development Project (MSDP) was established by Central Silk Board in Guwahati during 1983 which has later been renamed as Muga Silkworm Seed Organization (MSSO) during 2005. Again, the MSSO has been renamed as Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organization (MESSO) during the year 2021. Presently, MESSO has P4 Unit - 2, P3 Unit - 8, MSSPC Unit -2, ESSPC Unit - 1 and MTU -1 are functioning under MESSO.
