Crop Schedule

Muga silkworm is multivoltine in nature and feeds upon two primary food plants, Som (Persea bombycina) and Soalu (Litsea polyantha). In its annual life cycle there are six crops whose nomenclature is based on the Assamese names of seasons. In chronological order starting from winter, they are the pre seed crop Aghenua (Nov-Feb) followed by seed crop Late Jarua (February-March) linking spring commercial crop Jethua (April-May) then Aherua (June-July), followed by Bhodia (August-September) linking autumn commercial crop Kotia (October-November).
